And She Lived Happily Ever After

The story in this post was actually forwarded by a very dear friend. I am posting it here with an added post script, the content of which is entirely my view on the 'other' advantages of singlehood. The story goes:

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?' The girl said: 'NO!' And the girl lived happily ever after.

She went shopping, dancing, camping, drank martinis, always had a clean house, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't get fat, traveled more, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had all the hot water to herself. She went to the theatre, never watched sports, never wore friggin' lacy lingerie, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.

If only our society made it easier for a single woman to do tasks such as buy her apartment without being tried to be taken for a ride for being a woman and so on, this would be THE story.

As for the strong opinions, when can we do away with the idea of an intelligent-but-docile woman? A woman's strong opinions are part of her self-actualization needs, and not a way to discount the man in the process.

(I am going to sound ultra feminist here.)
Looking from where i am ..from a 20 yr old's point of view this particular formula of living happily ever after is so much more tempting than the traditional way of doing things. Overbearing, bossy.... and oh, those who have no respect for women's opinions... Why? why do the guys ALWAYS turn out that way?

Guys are just plain egoistic?

I am happy being single. It's fun, enjoyable... I get to go where I want... crack witty jokes anytime I like without bothering to pretend to be inferior in mental abilities to some alpha male... Ok I sound way feminist here. But I don't understand why guys like the subservient type of girls and don't tolerate those who speak their minds. Are they afraid?
